Reviews

A convenient size and shape, the Envirocycle turns easily and is small enough to fit most places, yet big enough to work reliably. The base collects "compost tea," so it can sit on a patio or deck without leaching liquids. The drum can be rolled to that spot in your garden that needs richer soil.

Capacity: 7 cubic feet. 26" diameter, 29" high on base

Composting action: batch tumbling

Turning mechanism: finger slots

Please note: Due to increases in freight fuel costs, we can no longer offer free shipping on this item.

Instructions for Use

  • Collect household waste (food scraps and shredded paper and cardboard), leaves and yard trimmings.
  • Toss household and yard waste in drum opening.
  • Rotate drum.
  • Smaller pieces recycle faster.
  • Always maintain a 50/50 balance of green & brown material. (Too many greens may smell bad!)
    • Brown (dry)
      • Leaves (dried)
      • Dry grass
      • Straw
      • Sawdust (not pressure treated wood)
      • All kinds of tissue paper
      • Newspaper (shredded)*
      • Paper & Cartons (shredded)*
      • Egg Cartons (shredded)*
        * Can also be recycled.
    • Green (wet)
      • Fruit peels
      • Vegetable peels
      • Coffee grinds and filters
      • Tea bags
      • Egg shells
      • Peanut shells
      • Garden waste
      • Plant trimmings
      • Table waste
    • Matter to avoid
      • Meat
      • Fish
      • Dairy products
      • Sauces
      • Oil
      • Fat
      • Pet waste
      • Diseased plants
      • Seeding weeds
      • Bones
  • As an option, add fresh manure or a compost activator to activate first batch.
  • Rotate drum 3 times a week to ensure perfect mix & air circulation.
  • Add additional brown material or simply rotate drum should any odor be present.
  • Keep material moist not wet. If too dry, add water. If too wet, add lots of dry leaves or shredded paper.
  • As drum becomes heavier, use a back and forth rocking motion.
  • For best results, do not fill more than 3/4 full.
  • To harvest compost, roll drum to desired spot.
  • Detach door & tip for easy removal of solid compost.
  • As an option, screen solid compost and allow to dry before using on lawn or houseplants.
  • Base collects liquid fertilizer for use on indoor & outdoor plant soil: Dilute with approximately 10 parts water to 1 part liquid fertilizer before use.

How Long Will It Take?

  • A cycle for finished solid compost & liquid compost tea in warm weather in Maine takes 6 weeks from time drum is 3/4 full. Longer in cold weather.
  • To speed up the composting process, put in a sunny spot and turn the drum more often.
  • In winter months move the Envirocycle close to your home for easy access. Do not turn the unit. Continue to add waste until unit is 3/4 full. Freezing breaks down fibers in organic material & will accelerate decomposition in spring.
